Marshfield Public Library Genealogy Index
This database represents over 20 years of work by many individuals. Volunteers representing the Marshfield Area Genealogy Group and Marshfield Public Library culled through microfilm newspapers for records of births, deaths and marriages. Their efforts were complemented by the work of GreenThumb/Experience Works/Senior Aides worker, Hilly Weimert.
This Genealogy Index is an online index to over 200,000 events reported in the following Marshfield newspapers over the years as indicated.
Marshfield Times February 1882 – October 1919
Marshfield News September 1889 – August 1920
Marshfield Herald May 1911 – August 1927
Events coded with a B include birth announcements, baptisms, christenings, adoptions, birthday anniversaries, naturalizations, military awards, information about veterans, and other events. Events coded with an M include marriage announcements, marriage licenses, engagement announcements, wedding anniversaries, and divorces. Events coded with a D include death announcements, obituaries, funeral announcements, probate notices, wills, and pension announcements. Although not all entries are specifically a birth, death, or marriage record, they are included to provide profitable leads for family researchers.
Brief notes are included, but the actual newspaper article should be seen for the search to be comprehensive. They may be viewed on microfilm at the Library. Names are entered exactly as they are listed in the newspaper. When two spellings of a name exist within the same article, both spellings are indexed. For consistency, the names of Catholic nuns are all listed with Sister as the surname.
